Pre-Operative Instructions

Your first appointment will consist of a consultation. The Oral Surgeon will explain your diagnosis and treatment options. Depending on the treatment, surgery can be performed the same day as the consultation. Some problems patients tend to run into preventing them from getting the surgery done the same day are complex medical history or the patient would like IV Sedation but they ate or drank something prior to their appointment. In these cases patients are given a second appointment to get treatment on another day. You can schedule an appointment as early as the following day.

Please assist us by providing the following information at the time of your consultation:

  • Your surgical referral slip and any x-rays if applicable.
  • A list of medications you are presently taking.
  • If you have medical or dental insurance, bring the insurance cards and your photo ID. This will save time and allow us to register you without any complications.

IMPORTANT: All patients under the age of 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at the consultation visit.

A preoperative consultation and examination is mandatory for patients undergoing IV anesthesia for surgery. Do not to eat or drink six hours prior to your surgery. You will also need an adult to drive you home. (Please do not drive to the appointment because you will not be allowed to operate any heavy machinery after receiving IV Sedation)

Please take all regular medications with a small sip of water unless otherwise instructed by your surgeon or primary care physician prior to surgery.

Please alert the office if you have a medical condition that may be of concern prior to surgery (i.e., osteoporosis, diabetes, high blood pressure, artificial heart valves and joints, rheumatic fever, etc.) or if you are currently taking any medication (i.e., heart medications, aspirin, anticoagulant therapy, etc.).

X-Rays

If your dentist or physician has taken a panoramic x-ray within the past 2 years, please request that they forward them to our office. If the panoramic x-ray is digital they can send it to us via e-mail. If there’s not enough time, please pick them up and bring them to our office the day of your appointment. If additional films are necessary, they can be taken at our facility.
